How long had you and your honey been dating when you got engaged?

4 and 1/2 years
We’d been dating for 1.5 years when he proposed…we were married 1.5 years later! We’d been together for 3 years when we walked down the isle 3 weeks ago!
About a year and a half
Four months.
10-months. We moved in together at 8-months.
We are both older (31, 33) and we had already dated several people. We knew it was right.

Just over 7 months.
[edited to add] In answer to other poster, I’m sure the thumbs down is because of people who think you shouldn’t get married unless you’ve known the person for 2-3 years. Everybody I know who is divorced knew each other at least 3 years before marrying, some as much as 10 years!

We had been together for 3 years when he proposed. We got married a year later and have been married for almost 3 years now.

We were together for a little over a year when he proposed, and then a year after he proposed we got married.

We’d been dating six months when we decided we wanted to get married, and just over a year when we publicly announced our intentions.
Edit: I never understand how people can thumbs-down something that is not opinion-based. In cases like this, there are not “wrong” answers - the question was “How long had you…been dating..?” not “How long SHOULD people date…?” Sometimes people just know when it’s right. Just because you were in a relationship for several years before realizing you wanted to marry or you waited around for years before your partner would commit doesn’t mean it will be the same for others. As long as two people are mature enough to make these decisions, there is no set timeline to be followed, so get over yourself.
were going on eight years and still no ring. but we’ve been together since high school. we have had lots of drama. the past two years have been great and are seriously talking about marriage.

About 3 years 8 months (we got engaged 7/7/07) and we were going to get married on 10-25-08 cuz that is the fifth anniversary of our first date, but we had to postpone it cuz of money issues (my honey was out of a job for about 7-8 months) so we are now getting married 10-24-09, so we’ll be together a day shy of 6 years when we actually say “I do”
This may sound crazy, but exactly 3 months after we started dating, he proposed! When we first met, it just “clicked”… he was literally everything I’d ever looked for in a guy, and vice versa (totally crazy, i know). We’ve been engaged for a year now, and we’re getting married in June.
I wouldn’t recommend this to everyone… every couple is different. But when it’s right you just know.
Well I have known him all my life,but we didn’t start dating until November 2004 and we got engaged on December 25, 2007!!!! Now we are getting married December 2008

meet each other here
4yrs and 1 month. We just got engaged on 9-5-08 at 445am! I was previously engaged to man same man a year and a half ago. We split for a month or two and I moved in and have been happy ever since. He defiantly knew he was ready this time. 4 long years and it’s finally happened!
